Since 1986, the Midlands Astronomy Club (formerly the Tullamore Astronomical Society) has been helping promote the interests of Astronomy and allied subjects. It has done so through:
• Public Lectures
• Observing Sessions
• Club Magazines & Literature
• Its own annual (Cosmos) star party
• Newspaper and radio articles
• Other Public Events e.g. table quizes
Meetings are held at least once a month, and are open to everyone, young and old. Read more about MAC & TAS here.

• The next public lecture takes place on Tuesday September 6th at 8pm in the Presbyterian Hall, High Street, Tullamore. Mr. John Lally, MAC, will present a talk entitled "The Moon and the Lunar 100". All welcome to attend, admission is €2.00.
• MAC successfully hosted TWO Perseids StarBQ's on August 7th and 14th this year. Read up on what the Perseids Meter Shower (info sheet PDF) was all about.
• MAC hosted a cloudy Moon Watch in Athy on Saturday April 24th last. It was brought in doors where members Declan Molloy and Seanie Morris presented short talks, telescope demonstrations and answered many questions.
• Our annual Cosmos 2010 Star Party took place on the weekend of April 9th to 11th at Annaharvey near Tullamore. An enjoyable and very successful weekend was had by all. A comprehensive report with photos will be online soon. More info.
•Our planned Messier Marathon for Friday March 12th did not happen due to the weather. Find out where each of the 110 objects lie, download the Messier Guide here (Adobe PDF, 1.2MB).
• Our Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday February 2nd. The minutes of a packed agenda will be distributed to members soon.
• MAC presented its annual Telescope Night for Beginners on Tuesday January 12th. 'Experts' from the club gave practical demonstrations on how to use and maintain telescopes to a large crowd.
• Our Annual Christmas Dinner was held on December 19th in Tullamore in Days Hotel with an added twist - Mr. Frank Ryan Jr. from Shannonside AC presented an afterdinner talk entitled "The Christmas Star: An Astronomer's View". An enjoyable night was had by all.
